"This is a tremendous achievement for our boys, who have shown they can compete with the best soccer talent in NSW. Inspired by the achievements of the Newcastle Jets, our team will be flying the flag for the Hunter when we travel down to Sydney, next week," explained school principal, Simon Mulready.
The NSW PSSA State Knockout has a history of unearthing great sporting talent. Socceroo superstar, Aaron Mooy, won the knockout with his local school when he was in primary school. However, the competition is more about team performance than individual success. Every public school across NSW has the opportunity to enter a team and represent their local community.
"I've been delighted to receive phone calls from other Newcastle schools, who we played in earlier rounds of the competition. They've got in touch just to wish our boys the best of luck. The Floraville community also supported the team with a cake stall, at the end of term, raising funds to pay the team's accommodation expenses. A local business, Mr Rental, has provided team uniforms. The boys are proud to represent their school and proud to represent the Hunter."
The finals will be played at Valentine Football Park in Sydney on October 22. Floraville will play a semi-final against Narranga Public School, champions of northern NSW, with the winner progressing to the final, later that day.
